How To Store Vinyl Records

Vinyl records are very fun to collect; that is a fact. The new generation of vinyl provides a very wide range of colors, techniques of making, and fun sleeves—one of my favorites is the Melanie Martinez K-12 album. The record comes either in a baby pink or a mint green, and the sleeve itself when opened turns into a pop-up book showcasing the scenography of the film. I can never recommend it enough. If you are interested in watching it it's free on YouTube, which is great!

So with such a fun selection of vinyls, how should you store your wonderful collection? Well, there are a few ways to do it:

The first thing I believe needs to be pointed out is that if you are storing your vinyls, do not, and I mean DO NOT store them flat on their back or stack them. Why? Because if you do, you will run into several issues. One is that the vinyls have the risk of warping. If that were to happen the vinyl would not play smoothly. Then you might have to use my very handy trick of putting a coin on the head of the needle. This is also a really good tip if the weight on your turntable needle is a bit off. If the weight is weird or the record is warped the record will jump all over the place.

There are many ways to store vinyl vertically and it can adjust to any aesthetic that one might have. One that I think is a lot of fun and is great to show off your records, is to hang them on the wall. Now stay with me on this one. The idea is to buy a pack of T pins, as these will hold your records against the wall. The idea is to space them like a grid, placing the pins on the wall never on the actual record. If pins are not your stylistic choice there are also these cool wall mounts that will also add an immaculate look to your collection. You can get a set of 8 for 20 dollars, which is a pretty good deal. I'll link them below.

Another recommendation that I like to make that I know for sure my partner doesn’t follow is to get a sleeve for your vinyl. This is important especially because it means protecting it from any water damage, or dust, and will help keep the color nice and vibrant. These can always be purchased for very cheap at your local vinyl stores or on our Vinyl Vista website.

You can always also get a beautiful wooden stand with a storage area. Will always be a good addition to warm up a space. It isn’t very budget-friendly but if you can afford it, definitely get it. I can see it in my future home for sure.

This is my favorite I found off of Urban Outfitters, a guilty pleasure store for sure. My wallet can account for that sadly, as well as the giant collection of smiskis on my wall. For any more tips and a closer look into the world of music tune in next time to our cozy corner of the world.
